About the self-isolation support scheme

self-isolation support scheme

You may be entitled to a payment of £500 under the if you have tested positive for COVID-19 or have been told to self-isolate by one of the following:

  • The NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect service (TTP)

  • The NHS COVID-19 app

If you test positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), or are told to self-isolate by contact tracers, your details will be automatically added to the NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect register. When you later apply to your local authority for the payment, they will check the register to confirm that you have been formally told to self-isolate.

If you’re told to self-isolate by the NHS COVID-19 app because you’ve been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus, you are not automatically added to the NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect register. This is because the app is anonymous and does not know who you are.

If you come into close contact of someone with COVID-19, you will no longer need to self-isolate if you are either:

or

  • you have participated in, or are participating in, a clinical trial of a vaccine for vaccination against COVID-19 carried out in the United Kingdom in accordance with the requirements of the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations 2004(2).

In Wales, if you are not fully vaccinated and are identified as a close contact via NHS Test, Trace, Protect or the NHS COVID-19 app, you are under a legal duty to self-isolate and may apply for the Self-isolation Support Scheme to claim £500 for time spent away from work while isolating.

How to apply when you’ve been asked to self-isolate by the NHS COVID-19 app

You will first need to register your details with the NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect service.

During your self-isolation period, there will be a Financial support button on the homescreen of your app. When you select this, then Wales as your country, you will be asked to register your details with NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect. You will then need to provide evidence that the notification to self-isolate belongs to you.

Once you’ve done this, you can apply to your local authority for the self-isolation support payment.

If you cannot see the Financial support button, make sure your app is updated to the latest version.

This button will only be there if you’re self-isolating because the app has told you that you’ve been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus.

It will not be there if you’re self-isolating because you have coronavirus symptoms. If you have symptoms, you should book a test through the app.

If you test positive for coronavirus, you'll be added to the NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect register automatically, and will be able to apply to your local authority directly.

If you are still having trouble please call 119.
