To turn on notifications in Android phones:

  1. Go to your phone’s Settings

  2. Select Apps, then select the NHS COVID-19 app

  3. Go to Notifications and make sure that the NHS COVID-19 app is set to ‘allowed'

Once you’ve done this, your notifications will be turned on. This will enable you to receive notifications from the NHS COVID-19 app. This includes Exposure Notifications which alert you when you've been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). Find out more about alerts that the app may send you.

If you receive an Exposure Notification, you may also be advised to self-isolate. The number of days that you need to self-isolate will also be reflected in the self-isolation countdown timer on the app. Please follow the advice in the app which is based on the latest government guidance.

The number of days that you may be asked to self-isolate, is calculated based on the approximate time you came into close contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus. This might have been several days ago, so you may not be asked to self-isolate for 10 full days.
