The NHS COVID-19 app works on Apple iOS versions 13.5 and higher. This is because the app has been designed to use technologies that are only available in these versions. While the app does work on version 13.5, we recommend you upgrade to version 14 or higher.

Follow the steps below to check and upgrade your Apple iOS. If these do not work with your particular phone, you can find instructions on the Apple website.

Checking your iOS version:

  1. Open Settings on your smartphone (you can usually find this with a label “settings” or a cog icon).

  2. Tap General.

  3. Tap About.

  4. Software Version will be displayed.

Upgrade your Apple iOS version:

  1. Open Settings on your smartphone (you can usually find this with a label “settings” or a cog icon).

  2. Tap General.

  3. Tap Software Update.

  4. Tap Download and Install at the bottom of the screen.

  5. If no updates are available for your smartphone, you'll see a message: Your software is up to date.

Updates may take some time to install and can be large to download. It's recommended to download the update on a wifi connection to avoid using your mobile data allowance.
