Sometimes, you might not be able to have your smartphone with you. For example, if you need to store your phone in a locker, or if you're doing a sports activity, such as swimming.

If your smartphone is not with you, it cannot record if you have come into contact with another app user who may have the virus.

If your employer’s policy is to store phones while you're at work, you should speak to your employer to see if they will review their policy on storing phones. If this is not possible, and in the case of sports or other activities which mean that you are away from your phone, the ‘pause’ function should be enabled.

While you do not have your phone with you, or if the pause function is enabled, you should follow NHS guidelines on public health contact tracing.
