The NHS COVID-19 app is no longer in use and the Isle of Wight trial has now ended. This is archived information from 18 June 2020. If you still have the app, please uninstall it.

If you become unwell with symptoms of coronavirus, you can allow the app to inform the NHS. This will trigger a notification that the NHS will send anonymously to other app users who you came into significant contact with over the previous few days.

Whether you get a notification is based on a ‘contact risk model’ developed by NHS doctors and scientists. This model is being continuously updated to make it as accurate as possible and has been signed off by the Chief Medical Officer, Chris Whitty.

The technology is based on research evidence developed by epidemiologists, mathematical modellers and ethicists at Oxford University’s Nuffield Departments of Medicine and Population Health.
